SEA
ARCHIVES

Designed as a comprehensive resource on spatial thinking, experimental pedagogy, and academic practices, this archive serves as a record for reference and critical analysis.

More than a traditional institutional repository, it is envisioned as an "Archive of Ideas," structured to mirror the conceptual and intellectual framework of SEA. The platform captures specific engagements, explorations, and pedagogical reorientations, expressing the school's distinct set of practices constituted by its students and teachers.

The collection encompasses intellectual articulations—from course books and objectives to studio briefs and lectures—alongside a  documentation of student work, field studies, and thesis projects. Through this structure, the archive navigates complex inquiries into typologies, ontologies, and genealogies, while exploring themes of environment, urbanisation, futures, and ethics. It serves as a space for rethinking geographies and histories of type, offering the school's co-learning experiments and its ongoing articulation of space and form.

De-Noising AI : Architectural Design in the age of Artificial Intelligence

To be added
Devvratsingh Chauhan , 2025

This research investigates the transformative role of artificial intelligence (AI) in architecture, with a focus on the design phase and its potential to augment human creativity. How generative artificial intelligence, particularly diffusion models are reshaping architectural design processes. The study examines how these models influence creativity, spatial logic, and the translation of data into architectural imagery. Architecture, often slow with integration of technological advancements, now stands at a critical crossroads. AI provides architects with tools to push creative boundaries, but its integration demands a careful balance between innovation and preserving human agency.

The research traces the evolution from manual to AI-driven methodologies, examining the evolving dynamics between technology and design. It identifies a key gap in current AI tools: generative AI, excel in producing stylistically compelling outputs, but their capacity to generate spatially coherent and contextually meaningful designs remain unexplored. This segmentation reflects a broader challenge in architectural processes, a disconnect between conceptual creativity and practical implementation.

Through a series of controlled experiments and training, the research explores AI’s role in conceptual phase, iterative and flexible design processes. By blending technical precision with creative freedom, AI is envisioned as a collaborative partner rather than a replacement. The architect’s role shifts towards directing AI-generated outputs to create designs that are context-sensitive, human-centered, and culturally responsive.

Ultimately, the study provides a roadmap for integrating AI carefully into architectural practice, emphasizing its potential to bridge existing gaps while adopting innovation. It emphasized the need for architects to maintain a critical role in leading and learning these technologies, ensuring the discipline evolves without losing sight of its core values.
